What this site collects and why.
Democratic Justice is built to show its work. That standard applies to this site too.
We do not use this site to build an advertising profile around readers. If you read a story here, we are not trying to follow you across the web or sell your attention to a data broker.
What the site stores
This site stores your edition preference in your browser so it can remember day or night mode. That setting stays on your device unless you clear it. We also serve our fonts locally, so the site does not call out to Google Fonts or similar providers just to render text.
Email and correspondence
If you email us, we receive the information you send, including your address and anything in your message. We use that information to reply, follow up, and keep a record of correspondence.
If you subscribe, the signup form is handled by Buttondown. Buttondown receives the email address you enter and manages delivery, unsubscribes, and subscription records for the list.
Hosting and security
The site is served through third-party infrastructure providers, including Cloudflare. Those providers may process basic request data, security logs, and network information to keep the site online and protect it from abuse.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, when configured for production, to measure aggregate traffic, page views, referrals, and engagement so we can show advertisers, sponsors, grantmakers, and other monetization partners that people visit and click through the site. Google Analytics may set first-party measurement cookies and process limited browser, device, page, and interaction data for reporting.
We configure analytics for measurement rather than ad targeting, and we do not use it to sell individual reader profiles. We also enable IP anonymization in the site tag. You can limit analytics in your browser by blocking cookies, using privacy tools, or installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
